What to do when you start a new Minecraft world (forest):

You will spawn in the world; it will probably be a forest of some sort. Or at least somewhere with some trees.

(if not, start walking until you find trees, otherwise you are dead; or just start a new world that is a forest)

Walk over to the closest tree and start punching it until you have destroyed all the wood. Do this with about two or three other trees.

Then, go to your inventory and put one wood log into the 4x4 square; in the smaller square beside it there will be new items: wood planks!

I realize this must sound confusing, so I added a picture or two. Don't worry if your world doesn't look like the forest in the picture; I just took a picture of the most common forest, but there are others.

Put all of your wood in the square, then take out the planks. Now put one plank in each slot of the 4x4 square and take out what you made: a crafting table! This is one of the most important things in all of Minecraft!

Once you have the crafting table, place it on the ground in front of you. Then, press the "use" button on it to open it up.

Take the remaining wood planks and put two in two slots, one on top of the other. This will make sticks! You should make eight sticks.

Then place two sticks, one in the middle slot, one in the slot under it. Then place three wood planks in the top left corner. You just made a wooden axe!

Now put two more sticks in the same placement, and three wood planks in the top three slots. You made a wooden pickaxe!

Put another two sticks in the same placement and one wood plank at the top. You made a wooden shovel!

And finally, put one stick in the middle slot of the bottom row, with two wood planks above it. This is very important: it is a sword!

Destroy your crafting table and pick it up; you will need it again.

Now collect some more wood with your new axe. Then find a hill/mountain.

If there are none, collect some more wood and build a simple house. Put your crafting table in a corner. Use it, and take six wood planks and put them in the two vertical row on the left. It will make a door. Place it at the entrance of your home. Now find some stone and mine it. This is vital.

If there is a hill/mountain, take your shovel and pickaxe and start tunneling into the side. Once you reach stone, mine a small room and put your crafting table in a corner. Use it, and take six wood planks and put them in the two vertical row on the left. It will make a door. Place it at the entrance of your home.

Now, there will not be much daylight left. If you see exposed coal, mine it with your pickaxe. Coal looks like stone with black flecks in it. If not, go outside and mine stone(it will drop cobblestone) and collect a bunch more wood. If it starts getting a bit darker, hurry home! Do not stay outside in the dark!

Once you are at home, go to your crafting table and place eight cobblestone in the outer slots of the crafting table. It will make a furnace. Place that next to your crafting table in your house. Next, make more wood planks, but don't use all of your logs! Put them in the same slots as the cobblestone when you made the furnace. You have a chest! Make another one, and place them side-by-side in the house. They will join together and make a double chest.

Then, press the "use" key on the furnace. In the top slot, put your logs, in the bottom put the same amount of planks. You will have to wait, but eventually in the third slot there will be charcoal.

In your crafting table, place a stick in one slot and one charcoal in the slot above it. You have a torch! Repeat until you have about twelve torches. Place them inside your house to light it up. Now you wait.

Do not go outside while it is dark! The are Mobs (monsters) that spawn in Minecraft at night! And some stay until you kill them. Use the sword you made.

Good luck, Fellow Minecrafter!

This is a creeper. Don't go near them and if you see one, run away, because they will explode when they are near you.
